Revenue rose to $116.8 billion from $87.2 billion a year earlier.
Earnings from exploration and production increased 45 percent to $8.79 billion, while its refining profits fell 39 percent to $1.17 billion from the quarter a year ago.
Spending on capital and exploration projects rose 30 percent, to $5.5 billion.
