Florida U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson said it best: “It’s going to be a knife fight in the streets.”
Nelson was talking about the fight to prevent oil drilling off the Florida coast in the Gulf of Mexico – the battle to save the beaches. It’s as if red tide isn’t enough. Now we’ve got to worry about tar balls.
Big Oil has set its greedy eyes on the gulf. It wants to drill off the Florida coast and couldn’t care less about the beaches. And considering the fact that Big Oil has a friend in the White House, Floridians have a right to be worried. What Big Oil has wanted in the Bush administration, Big Oil has gotten.
It has all but nailed down permission to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, one of the nation’s last great natural treasures.
