Fixing Powercrisis Without Running Water

Jerry Oluk is a busy sales executive. One of his prized possessions is a sleek top-of-the range mobile phone. Unfortunately Jerry is constantly “off air” because he cannot recharge his phone. Uganda is suffering one of the worst water and power crisis in its history and it is having a crippling effect on all aspects of life in the country.

A similar situation is being experienced in Kenya and Tanzania where water rationing has been effected while power rationing, a common feature in Tanzania, is being considered again in Kenya as a result of the ongoing drought. Although rains have fallen in parts of Kenya, they are not the beginning of the long rains, which experts say will be less than average this year.
