EU Tells OPEC Oil Will Stay Key Part Of Its Energy Supply

(AP) – Oil will remain a major part of Europe’s energy supply despite worries about volatile prices and the EU’s attempt to become a cleaner and more environmentally conscious consumer, an official said Wednesday after talks between the European Union and OPEC.

”Our basic energy supply in the next decades will have to rely on fossil fuels,” Austrian Economy Minister Martin Bartenstein told reporters, saying the EU was also committed to cutting energy use and turning to more renewable forms of power.

”When we are talking about these things we are talking about the decreases in the increase in the use of fossil fuels,” he said.
