EU seeks energy solution as gas row revives Cold War fears

European Union states are urgently studying ways to reduce their energy dependence on Russia after Moscow’s decision to halt gas supplies to neighbouring Ukraine revived uncomfortable memories of the Cold War.

Officials from five central European states – Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria – met to discuss finding alternative sources of energy.
