Energy rights fuel Japan-China row

China has accused Japan of serious provocation over plans to drill for natural gas and oil in disputed waters as tensions between Asia’s economic giants escalate.

Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi yesterday called for talks to end the tension and turn “the sea of conflict into a sea of co-ordination”.
