Converting municipal solid waste into refuse-derived fuel might solve the garbage problem
One of the continuing challenges of urban areas is the increasing presence of municipal solid waste. In a curious way, the quantum and quality of garbage generation is directly related to economic growth.
In India about 400 gms of garbage i.e. municipal solid waste (MSW) is generated per head per day, while in the United States it is 1.5 to 2 kg per head per day, which is the maximum in the world. The estimated MSW generated in India works out to one lakh tones per day.
