Energy and Emissions: The Challenge of Climate Change

According to the ‘Business as Usual’ Scenario in the World Energy Outlook 2004, world energy consumption will increase about 1.9per cent per year between 2000 and 2030, driven by economic and population growth. In 2030, some 55per cent of the world energy demand is expected from developing countries, compared to 40per cent now. The world energy system will continue to be dominated by fossil fuels. In 2030, they are expected to represent almost 90 per cent of total energy demand.
