International Herald Tribune – Just days before the Group of 8 summit meeting in St. Petersburg, the head of the International Energy Agency took the Russian energy giant Gazprom to task for a lack of transparency in its investment plans and its unwillingness to allow other producers – foreign or domestic – access to its vast network of pipelines to export natural gas.
In unusually sharp comments from an international civil servant, Claude Mandil, the agency’s executive director, questioned whether Gazprom would have enough natural gas to meet its commitments to European consumers because of inadequate investment in Russia.
