The modern day Four Horsemen continue to ride roughshod over the people who can least afford it. Crises are converging when governments, religion and mainstream economists have stalled. 23 international thinkers come together and break their silence about how the world really works and why there is still hope in re-establishing a moral and just society. Four Horsemen is free from mainstream media propaganda, doesn’t bash bankers, criticize politicians or get involved in conspiracy theories. The film ignites the debate about how we usher a new economic paradigm into the world which, globally, would dramatically improve the quality of life for billions.

This is not new I saw it early last year. Decent doc but like any that take on that topic, it is hard to get a good handle on such a complex topic. I did purchase the DVD for my library.

Davy – Since you’ve studied the plan I’ll let you save me some time: exactly who they propose will force the societies to move away from BAU? Force because obviously if it could have been achieved voluntarily it would have already happened.

So did I, Davy. True, it’s complex and Sir John Glubb’s take is hardly the only one on the subject. Still, and although there are many differences between historical empires, it’s clear that there are repeated patterns in both the ascendant and decadent phases of empires. And it kind of looks like the present one is in the decadent phase, doesn’t it?

Rock, to be honest it was many moons ago since I watch it. I saw the director on Max Keiser show. The documentary had many decent thinkers putting forth their views covering the corrupt and dangerous systems causing financial and ethical collapse we see today. Social violence, debt, poverty, and injustice. I remember there were good points made but they reminded me of an angel with iron wings. Angelic ideas but ideas that will never leave the ground. I remember I felt the story line lacking because of the failure of including energy as a central theme.
Gav, Yeap, decadent phase would be an understatement. Never in history has the decadent phase been turbo charged like we have today.

“Never in history has the decadent phase been turbo charged like we have today.”
And never before in history, did a collapse have so far to fall, for so many.
With all of the environmental damage, resource depletion, and a population so far in overshoot, it begs the question; What will the ‘next empire’ look like? Will we revert back to human slavery, a neo-feudal society, or will TPTB simply reduce our populations with WWIII? Or will BAU be held up for as long as possible, while they continue to rape, loot, and pillage other societies of their resources, until the planet is no longer capable of sustaining life?
So many questions, so little time.

GregT, I see it ending in total collapse and extinction of homo sapiens and most of the life on this planet above virus and bacteria.
When? By 2100 or so, from what I read and see. It will take a few generations for the nuclear waste/bomb radiation to totally destroy the ability of life to procreate. It will not be a happy 100 years.

I see it less drastic than that. Yes, there is going to be a severe contraction, it will be the fifties all over again (according to my parents of blessed memory ‘the happiest decade in their life’). OK, we will stop jetting to places we have no business in the first place. Gone will be the days that an army of 50.000 moronic Dutch soccer fans can drive 2 * 800 km within 48 hours to cheer a stupid Dutch soccer team in Switzerland:

But what else? I don’t believe in ‘collapse’ of human civilization, but in massive belt tightening and that the enormous repository of scientific and technological knowledge, build-up since the fifties, can help us make life bearable.
