economical growth is most definitely linked to energy consumption, even though some say otherwise. even in the middle ages, the economy ”grew” along the efficieny in using renewable energy – like sailing for example. wind power enabled some nations or cities (venice, genova, etc.) to establish long distance trading routes which then funded europe on its march to current glory.
oil is so deeply embedded in our everyday life, our mode of production, and our agricultural system that i just cannot imagine an alternative for it. are we going to use wood gas trucks to replenish our supermarket shelves?
it’s simple: we’ve hit the jackpot at the beginning of the 20th century and we blew hundreds of millions of years worth of concentrated solar energy for personal transportation and producing cheap textile. we also believe our way of life is normal. hillarious
