Production at the Syncrude oilsands operation in northern Alberta has been suspended due to instrument freeze-ups during extreme cold weather.
The facility is located near Fort McMurray, where temperatures have dipped to the -40 C range.
Canadian Oil Sands Trust, which is the largest partner in the Syncrude consortium, says operation of a number of units has been disrupted by the deep freeze.
The trust says that it will take several days to restore operations fully.
