Coal Is World’s Fastest Growing Source of Energy

Coal is the world’s fastest-growing energy source as rising oil prices prompt users to switch fuels, the U.S. Energy Information Administration said.

Coal’s share of total world energy may climb to 28 percent in 2030, from 26 percent in 2004, the agency, part of the U.S. Energy Department, said in a report published yesterday. Consumption is growing an average of 2.2 percent a year. The fuel will overtake oil to become the largest source of carbon dioxide emissions by 2010, the report said.
