Not enough progress is being made towards developing “clean coal” technology, the International Energy Agency has warned.
In a report released in Europe overnight, the IEA said CCS could be a viable and competitive way to reducing the world’s greenhouse gas emissions.
But the technology needed a kickstart.
The IEA noted developed countries had endorsed its push to have 20 large-scale CCS demonstrations committed by 2010, with broad deployment by 2020.
“Current spending and activity levels are nowhere near enough to achieve these deployment goals,” the report found.
