A fierce firefight between Saudi security forces and suspected Islamic militants raged on in the north of the kingdom for a second straight Monday, leaving as many as eight militants dead and at least 15 security personnel wounded, media reports said.
Saudi commanders said the death toll among the militants remained unclear as security personnel had yet to enter parts of the complex where they were holed up in the northern town of Al-Rass.
They said at least three militants had been killed since the gunbattle erupted early Sunday but Saudi-owned media put the toll as high as eight.
“The operation is continuing. The security forces have surrounded them. There is still gunfire from the besieged building,” interior ministry spokesman, Brigadier General Mansur al-Turki, said.
