City runs out of fuel as oil stir continues

NEW DELHI: The city was running critically low on fuel at the end of Day 2 of the strike by officers of oil PSUs on Thursday, with just 25% of
petrol pumps left with supplies.

The situation is feared to get worse on Friday when offices reopen after the Muharram holiday as fresh talks between company managements and the striking Oil Sector Officer Association have failed.

Panic filling by motorists added to the worsening supply situation with mile-long queues forming at the 100-odd filling stations across the city that still had stocks by late afternoon. These were mainly HPCL pumps which were unaffected by the stir. With nearly 300 city pumps having run dry, anxious motorists were being given rationed fuel after an average waiting time of almost an hour at most places. Many car-owners spent hours hopping from pump to pump in search of fuel.
