The challenge facing G8 nations in the next six months is how to involve China, India and other major developing countries in the United Nations effort to curb global warming, the UN’s top official on climate change has said.
Yvo de Boer, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), described the agreement reached at the G8 in Heiligendamm as a “breakthrough” and said it had “re-energised” climate talks that have been stalled since America refused to ratify the Kyoto Treaty in 2001.
