Cairn Energy boosts Indian field estimates

Cairn Energy has upgraded estimates of the size of oil discoveries in Rajasthan, sending its shares up strongly and increasing speculation it could become a takeover target.

The Edinburgh-based exploration and production company said independent verification meant it could say the Mangala, Bhagyam and Aishwariya fields had 1.7bn barrels of proven and probable crude.
