Prime Minister Gordon Brown said Thursday he would attend top level talks between oil producers and consumers in Saudi Arabia on June 22 to discuss growing concerns over record-high oil prices.
“I will travel to Jeddah in order to work on it with (Saudi) King Abdullah,” Brown told a news conference in London.
“I proposed to the king that if necessary I will be happy to convene a follow-up summit at heads of government level and have offered London as a venue,” he added.
US energy secretary Samuel Bodman was to represent Washington at the Jeddah meeting.
