BP orders North Sea upgrade

ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has won a contract to provide safety and automation systems (SAS) for BP’s Valhall redevelopment project in the North Sea. Based on the award-winning System 800xA, ABB’s SAS are to be fully integrated with the existing ABB Advant/Master systems on the field. By specifying ABB’s System 800xA, traditional control systems are expanded to include any automation component with one simple interface, enabling smarter and more efficient platform management.

These contracts provide upgrades that will extend the Valhall field’s production until 2050; the field was discovered in 1975 and production started in 1982.
