Black Gold and U.S. Dollar Hegemony

Recently there has been a tremendous amount of discussion in the media concerning peak oil, and other related issues: looming energy shortages, rising oil prices, possible terrorist attacks aimed at disrupting oil flows, and the various negative effects these variables might have on the U.S. dollar: the reserve currency of the world.

The following discussion addresses all of the above issues, however, it does not seek to provide any answers or solutions to the tangled web of energy.
