Bird songs muted by oil and gas machinery

The roar of oil and gas machinery in Alberta is drowning out the springtime mating calls of birds, a problem set to worsen as the industry pushes further into the wilderness.

Noise from compressor stations used by the oil and gas industry to push their product down pipelines appears to be hampering the mating success rates of the birds, said biologist Lucas Habib of the University of Alberta.
