Big oil companies ready themselves to reap the green dividend

British oil companies plan to invest hundreds of millions of pounds over the next decade on research facilities and new refineries to meet a growing demand for environmentally-friendly biofuels.
They are responding to the rapid expansion of the European market for biofuels, underpinned in the UK by the government’s renewable transport fuel obligation and in the European Union by the EU’s biofuels directive that stipulates that 5% of all vehicle fuel should come from carbon-free sources by 2010.
