Bedroom-Community Lifestyle Has No Future

Last week, The Augusta Free Press discussed how the Greater Augusta area was becoming a bedroom community for our biggest urban neighbors. Especially from pricey Charlottesville, commuters seem attracted to our lower housing prices and high quality of life.

As a relative newcomer myself, I can’t argue with that. This is beautiful and charming area, and it is just getting more attractive as our towns revitalize themselves. So I’d like to welcome our new neighbors. And I’d like to offer them a little friendly advice:

When gas hits $5 a gallon, I hope you won’t be making that daily commute from Waynesboro to Charlottesville in an SUV that gets 12 MPG.
