Ballard now has specific targets instead of lofty goals

When Ballard Power Systems chief executtive John Sheridan talks about where he wants to take the fuel-cell developer (TSX:BLD) over the coming years, he sounds a lot like his predecessors with promises of clean, environmentally friendly energy. But the former president of Bell Canada says there is an important difference this time in that he’s set measurable targets that the company will follow quarter by quarter, instead of lofty strategic goals the company would like to reach sometime down the road.

Ballard set the goal of a 2010 demonstration that will show its technology will have 5,000 hours of lifetime; an ability to start at -30 C; volumetric power density of 2,500 watts net per litre; and a cost of $30 US per net kilowatt at a volume of 500,000 units.
