A&M chemical engineer offers fuel option

Mark Holtzapple also is developing a car engine capable of being powered by any type of fuel and could be as much as three times as efficient as current engines, he told an audience of about 600 Tuesday night. Holtzapple was the final speaker of this year’s Distinguished Lecture Series hosted by Texas A&M University.

One type of fuel the StarRotor engine could run on is the biofuel made by Holtzapple’s MixAlco process. “We can use anything that biodegrades,” he said. “If you put it outside and it rots, we can use it. So we can use trees, grass, manure, sewage sludge or garbage.”
