Cathay Pacific Airways and rival Singapore Airlines will raise fuel surcharges by more than 20 percent next month to help offset rising costs.
Cathay’s surcharge, which has been approved by the Civil Aviation Department, will be increased 21.6 percent to HK$450 per ticket on each leg, from HK$370. The carrier will raise the charge for short-haul flights by 21 percent per ticket to HK$109 from HK$90.
Other long-haul carriers such as Gulf Air, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa German Airlines and Virgin Atlantic were also among 15 airlines that obtained approval to increase the surcharges. The extensions will expire July 31.
