Black Friday, is a passing fad in this part of the world, far fewer traders plan to participate this year than last year.
I never went anywhere near the shops on "sales days".

I would like a pair of these, but judging by my wifes reaction its not going to happen.

This reminds me of several famous George Carlin quotes on materialism/consummerism..."Spending money they don't have, on things they don't need." Or "everyone is in the mall scratching their ass to get their credit card out of their wallet. So that they can buy sneakers with lights in them." Most people have been conditioned by capitalists to become little more than mindless consumers that buy whatever the corporations are advertising to them. And it is not like acculumating more and more useless junk is somehow going to make you happier in the long-term or in the true sense of the word happiness. Binge buying or shopperholicism (or shopperholics as the people with this condition are called) only satistfies an instant gratification point, but doesn't provide you with any long-term satisifaction. The fact that you can never be satisified with enough material possessions is what peddlers of materialistic junk depend on for emptying your wallets and maxing out your credit card. You always need more material possessions! It is never enough. So need to keep on buying more and more useless junk! That way you can keep the coffers of the corporations filled to the brim!
History repeats itself. Just everytime with different characters and players.
