The US has been conducting overflights of Iran with drones and spy planes for some time, maybe three years now. Drones have been shot down, but what happens if a manned US plane is shot down over Iran? Will the US just accept a "so sorry" from Iran, just like Iran did in the 1980s when the US military shot down an Iranian civilian passenger flight in the Persian Gulf? Don't think so.
With all those US and Iranian ships moving about the Persian Gulf eventually there will be a collision - or just a 'threatening action'. I've already posted elsewhere how a US nuclear sub recently "bumped" into a Japanese oil tanker going to Iran by "mistake".
It's already over, now it's just a matter of adjusting.
