Texan by birth, Texan by choice. Although I have a certain fondness for cowboy diplomacy, I would never by mistaken for a cowboy. 8)

Born in Tennessee, raised in Florida, college in Missouri and Louisiana. Been in Texas since 1977, have no intention of leaving! (The "by choice" part is just like you, Jack! :) )

Obviously, not all of us in Texas are in thrall to the current occupant of the White House....

Born and raised in Uphall Station, Scotland. Uphall, ironically, is the site of some of the first shale mines around. We are surrounded by enormous shale bings (tips/hills) that was mined in the 19th and 20th century by irish immigrants (my grandad was involved in it when he came over from ireland).

They are being taken away now to be used for landfill and for road building etc.

I now live in linlithgow - 7 miles from Uphall Station...! i'm a real homebody, and my parents still live in Uphall and most of my close family too.

My story goes:
Finland - Sweden - Finland - UK - Finland. And after graduation, possibly UK again, though Norway is starting to look like a very interesting option.

Hmm, either this web site is most read by Europeans or something is wrong with the polling process.

Yes. I think some people are confused by the butterfly ballot. I got some write in voters voting for pat Buchanan. Some one else voted as being an American then voted against being an American. As always it is electronic so AARON might be up to his old tricks (yes that right Aaron we are on to you, we know about Ohio). Don’t worry Baby P we can allways bring in the Supreme Court if our poll monitors find significant discrepancy with the exit polling

We are on top of it, 8)

Not exactly a scientific process is it?

That said, our European colleagues seem to be jumping on board in larger numbers, so it's not too surprising.
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

This could be because PO is getting more media coverage here.

I've seen more mention of PO related programs on European TV than I have in the States.

Also all of the conferences that I am aware of are happening in Europe.

ASPO conferences have been held in Stockholm, Paris and Berlin with this Lisbon being this years Choice.

There is a conference on depletion in Edinburgh next month.

There is also one on the impact PO will have on food distribution in Dublin in June.

Looks like Europe is well ahead in terms of PO awareness.

We're having one in Los Angeles this summer. It's not ASPO, but it's still the biggest PO event I know of in the Southwest.

So far, our expectations are to have the following speakers:

Heinberg
Ruppert
LA Department of Water and Power
Local farming movement from South Central LA
LA Bus Rider's Union
Representatives from three local ecovillages
Matt Savinar
David Goldstein

And a screening of End of Suburbia. Should be an action-packed day.

We should really set up a pre-registration so we can see how many would come to such an event. If it's less than 400, we can do it in a single-screen movie theater. If we got between 400 and 800, it would be a two-screen theater, and 1200 would book us a three-screen with a decent lobby, and we can move speakers through the different rooms.
