Gas, yes the scenery has not gone anywhere haha. The drive along the coast of California is incredible just did it last year with my family. As for the authorities preparing for mass protests, yes that is true. Fema camps seem to be true as well. Also, National Guard and Police heavily armed. But I can say this a heavy handed approach I think will only rile up more people to rise up. We Americans are not used to having our first amendment rights negated.

in other words just like the masses were blindsided by using homes as collateral for subprime loans which in turn were bundled for mortgage back securities and bet against with credit default swaps, the next downturn IMHO is in the works and will be caused by a combination of factors such as unfunded/unrealistic public pensions, basic resource depletion like oil/water which in turn have affects on the environment, etc.
