Eating critters who eat our food might be a reasonable response to hard times.

I'm not looking forward to eating raccoons and possums, personally. Squirrels are supposed to be pretty tasty, though.

I remember a program about rats, probably on PBS, in which an Indian family were depicted catching rats in the rice fields. The father said "I can't imagine not eating rats - they are so tasty!" They were toasting the rats over little fires. They also ate the rice they collected from the rat nests, rice which I imagine was very "rat flavored" but for them it was easy food to obtain.

Check out this Taco Bell video. There will be no problems switching over to other meat products if beef becomes too expensive.
