I tried Googling it, and there's not much info - even on the FX site. However they do have a page with images from it: link From what little info I have, it's a mock documentary set in 2007 when the oil supply is cut off as a result of man-made & natural disasters. Not sure if peak oil theory plays a part, but it looks interesting. It's supposed to be airing next month.

I thought they already made the PO movie several years ago.

link If I see that sign, I will be in walking mode, or reduced to use my motercycle illegally. The sad thing is, with PO on the horizon, (or is it in the blind spot and I just can't see it yet?), this sign will probably be a reality by 2007. Hang on to your hats, you're in for a hell of a ride! 8O. Also, when will this be airing? I just may have to watch it. (About time I fired up the old idiot box, it's been over a year now.)

If I had the money I'd make a porno movie about life after PO.

Maybe people would take PO more seriously instead of thinking it's just a bunch of left wing greenies crying wolf?

Just looked at the promo pix. Don't know how cookie-cutter a disaster movie this will be, but I have to say, the pix DO look like the near future, all right! Glad it was a small cable station like FX that went first, rather than another Big Hollywood Production, aka "The Day After Tomorrow"!

"Road Warrior" was an after-nuclear-war, little-drinkable-water post-apocalypse movie. Now water supplies ARE gonna be a major problem (like they aren't already!), and nuclear problems (from leaking, exploding power plants) WILL bedevil us. But PO brings all this to a whole new level. Too many people + too little power + not enough food + global warming and climate change + power grid breakdown + resource wars=a literal hell on Earth. Will anyone survive? Will flora and fauna survive? Will water survive? And just HOW fast will the decline be?
On second thought, I don't think anyone can EXAGGERATE what's coming! 8O   :(

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('savethehumans', '"')Road Warrior" was an after-nuclear-war, little-drinkable-water post-apocalypse movie.(

Indeed...but what prompted the war? From the intro:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'M')y life fades. The vision dims. All that remains are memories. I remember a time of chaos. Ruined dreams. This wasted land. But most of all, I remember the Road Warrior. The man we called 'Max'.

To understand who he was, you have to go back to another time. When the world was powered by the black fuel. And the desert sprouted great cities of pipe and steel. Gone now, swept away. For reasons long forgotten, two mighty warrior tribes went to war and touched off a blaze which engulfed them all. Without fuel they were nothing. They built a house of straw. The thundering machines sputtered and stopped. Their leaders talked and talked and talked. But nothing could stem the avalanche. Their world crumbled. The cities exploded. A whirlwind of looting, a firestorm of fear. Men began to feed on men.

On the roads it was a white line nightmare. Only those mobile enough to scavenge, brutal enough to pillage would survive. The gangs took over the highways, ready to wage war for a tank of juice. And in this maelstrom of decay, ordinary men were battered and smashed....

In Richard Heinberg's book Powerdown I think he refers to this as the "last one standing" scenario

The movie you call 'Road Warrior', was that the MadMax movie with Tina Turner and Aunty M? If so, you should see the first 2, made in Australia. First movie shows outback Ausy in depression - still some petrol, some travelling, but few jobs and police patroling the highways (Mad Max was a cop, didn't go mad till the bikie gang killed his wife and baby).

The second movie was set a little later, when the cities were deserted and centres around a small oil well/refinery making enough petrol to allow a small community to move out of the semi-arid/desert area they were in to a more congenial environment and the raiders circling the fortified encampment trying to steal the oil (like a western).
The third movie (Beyond Thunderdome) was when the community had left leaving Max in the desert, wandering until the kids found him...

Have to admit there wasn't much about oil as a cause of the problem. It was war overseas that crashed the global economy and Australia slowly collapsed in the aftermath. The fight for dwindling oil production was part of the collapse.
Kind regards, Katkinkate

Just my $.02, but if it's anything like "Day After Tomorrow" it's going to suck. That was a terribly implausible look at global warming that probably did not do much to increase people's awareness. It made the problem look like...well, like some implausible hollywood scenario.

On unrelated note, Gogota asked one of the subcontractor for the oil and gas industry about "peak oil". According to Gogota, the owner face become green and asked him to stepped aside. In whisper mode , he ask Gogota how he knew about peak oil. Gogota mentioned something about PO.com. He said don't preach peak oil or potential Malaysia Homeland security visit.
So, many are prepared for peak oil in Sarawak. They just not registered in this forum like me and Gogota. Just like our normal Asian behaviour. Don't talk too much. This movie will not be popular now. However it will be popular after massive inflation had hit our economy on 3rd rock from the sun. It will explained everything unless a better "peak oil" movie come out.
The fucked ones are those with tonnes of debts to service. The only option for them is run to Indonesia. And those who owed tonnes of debts in Indonesia will come here as it is out of their juridiction. At least, that's part of my advice nowadays.

I've been writing short e-mails to media outlets like newspapers requesting that they publish articles on PO. FX has a "contact us" link on the webpage linked to above so I just requested that they lead into their airing of Oilstorm with an admonition to viewers to check out the reality of PO. Perhaps if others request the same thing of them they will actually do it.

"Day After Tomorrow" was recommended to me by someone who said "The scary part is that it could all happen that fast" so I guess the addage is "If you televise it, they will believe"
Lets hope that at least this movie wakes people up to the fact that PO is not just about Gas prices.
Angry yet?

It's only a movie. link Looks pretty cheesy to me; I think the producers should subtitle it "Road Worrier" or "Miffed Max II". link

Look at the guy in the beret. I think he's the drummer in David Letterman's band. Evidently, they couldn't get Max (Weinberg). I also see an ominous 2x4 off to the right. SCARY, KIDS!
