Humans, I mean. No offense to the puppies, it's just an expression.

Both from today's Washington Post:

The SC ruling is OK, I guess but something I did not know...

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he law was enacted in 1999 to limit Internet sales of so-called crush videos, which appeal to a certain sexual fetish by showing women crushing to death small animals with their bare feet or high-heeled shoes.

The cause of the earthquakes...

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '&')quot; Many women who do not dress modestly ... lead young men astray, corrupt their chastity and spread adultery in society, which (consequently) increases earthquakes," Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi was quoted as saying by Iranian media. Sedighi is Tehran's acting Friday prayer leader.

Yeah, let's blame the scantily clad women with their "tight coats and scarves pulled back to reveal much of their hair" (scanty according to the Iranian cleric) for the earthquakes. Hmmm, imagine the chaos that would ensue if women there suddenly donned bikinis!

Honestly, it seems a lot of people have a hard time accepting that earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are just natural occurrences and not punishments dealt to us by ?? supernatural beings or whatever. I was watching an interview on TV with a farmer near the Icelandic eruption and he wondered why he was being punished. His farm, which had been in the family for three generations and which was being devastated by ash, was very close to the volcano. It just happens that his family farm has never been affected by an eruption until now.

As regards the fetish, I just don't understand that. A friend of mine worked in an adult store for a while and she got some pretty strange requests from customers that would fall into the category of fetish. Most of them were harmless, and she would not participate in any of them if they made her uncomfortable. For example, one guy asked her to rip up his magazines with her feet before he left the store. To each his own, I guess, as long as it doesn't harm anyone, or in the case above, any critters.

As a libertarian, I generally don't like laws regulating many things other folks would get upset about. Showing my leftist leanings, I guess, animal cruelty for me is a BIG exception.

What the hell is wrong with people? There isn't enough suffering in the world that we have to deliberately use our "big brains" to inflict more on helpless animals?

Don't mistake me for a PETA freak, BTW, but I'd certainly prefer that we TRY to minimize the suffering of the animals we use, where practical. This be whether they be for food, clothes, medicine, etc.

For sex - there isn't enough pornography (which, as a libertarian, I'm a fan of if you protect the rights of children and those who don't want to see it from exposure to it) in the world already, for crying out loud?

Actually both earthquakes and the volcano are my fault... I was sitting on the floor in front of the my computer watching music videos and eating dinner and the floor was cold so I put a world atlas under me.

Since I had chilli for lunch earlier I was gassy and my stomach was a little upset and I farted on Haiti. Of course I shifted my position a little, and then farted on Chili. I shifted again because I was uncomfortable and then sat on Iceland.

I won't tell you what caused the volcanic eruption!

It was sympathetic magick! (or I really am God like my wife addresses me under the sheets)
An ideology is by definition not a search for TRUTH-but a search for PROOF that its point of view is right

Equals barter and negotiate-people with power just take

You cant defend freedom by eliminating it-unknown

Our elected reps should wear sponsor patches on their suits so we know who they represent-like Nascar-Roy

Did the earthquakes and the volacnic eruption even happen? I didn't personally feel them. It must have been a hoax ala the moon landings. ;)

When I was in Costa Rica in the 80's there was a 7.2 magnitude quake that the Ticos said was caused by people playing cards on Sunday.

Remember what Pat Robertson had to say about the Haitian quake?

I think that whenever something bad happens there is always some cleric ready to blame it on sin.
Deep in the mud and slime of things, even there, something sings.

Sounds like you're an anthropocentric libertarian.
