How did you pick your name?

Unread postby PenultimateManStanding » Fri 27 May 2005, 15:21:09

When we are born our parents give us names. Profound thing if you think about it. But here, we get to pick our own names. Mine was a reference to Heinberg and Savinar plus a way to show that I know lots of big words. 8) I assume dmtu is a reference to dmt. What the hell is an 'ayoob', besides boo-ya spelled backwards. Albente is all-bent-eh. So what's up with your names, people?

I was never really too into picking new names that represented something for my "internet persona." I am online who I am in person, so most of my nicknames on the internet have merely been my real name. My name is Derek, and I was born in February of 1982, so most of my nicks have been derek282. Recently I've been some_guy282 because...well, I am some guy, aren't I? At least I think I am. Last time I checked I don't have ovaries.

When my first grandchild was born I decided to pick my own grandpawwww name.

I thought Pops best, though mostly I’m called Poppy – foiled again!

My original forum name was jrob8503. It is the first letter of my first name, the first three letters of my last name, my year of birth and my high school graduation years. jrob8503 is my all purpose internet id.

My new forum name, jesus_of_suburbia is the second track of Green Day's "American Idiot". I liked that particular album more than I really like the band's work as a whole. I love "Jesus of Suburbia"'s lyrics and thought they were rather appropriate considered peak oil.

I screwed up.

It was meant to be Razoxanne but I put in Raxozanne :(

Razoxanne is a fictious character in a book who is a fallen angel who goes on a rampage to cleanse the world of killers even worse than herself.
She was named after the chemical Razoxanne which is used to treat cancer but in itself causes major side-effects such as nausea, hair loss etc
Hello, my name is Rax. I live in the Amazon jungle with a bunch of women. We are super eco feminists and our favourite passtimes are dangling men by their ankles and discussing peak oil. - apparently

Well back in the old days of the internet I was "Gandalf" - since I am a Tolkien fan. Back then this was actually a unusual handle (like 1980) - We're talking 8086/Vic20/timexsinclair/vax-vms/card reader/bbs days here.... Well I rarely use that handle now since there are something like a million of them on the net now. But since I am in New Mexico, and I wanted something short and easy... G, NM = GNM.... no relation to my real name...

I do medieval re-enactment with various living history organizations, particularly norse 8th through 11th century, commonly referred to as the Viking Age. Olaf is a Scandinavian name I use for re-enactment.

My first name is Tyler. My middle name starts with a "J" and my last name starts with a "C". Hence, TylerJC. I made a mistake however and ended up messing up my TylerJC account and switched it over to Tyler_JC. If you look on the site for October and September of 2004, you'll see some of my oldest posts.

Lots of people here seem to think that my JC stands for Jesus Christ  . That's not the case, but believe whatever makes you feel happy, so long as it doesn't break any laws like gravity...or the Second Law of Thermodynamics (I'm thinking of you BiGG).

I used the TylerJC for my Slate account at MSN. I think some of my posts are still there if you search far enough back. I gave up Slate when I discover PO. I couldn't convince anyone that Peak Oil was a problem and just decided to leave. However, 1 guy there, PhilFromCalifornia, understood PO and we fought the good fight. If you're seeing this Phil, Hi!

Wow, I'm rambling. Sorry  .

A "Carlhole" is a term invented by a group of college students in the seventies describing a cavern into which beer, joints and pizza will disappear if unminded. More decorous than the term, "a$$hole", it avoids unpleasant physical risks. Nowadays, however, "Carlhole" refers to a place into which information is poured.

Plus it's slang for angst/anxiety in swedish.

Mine is a nickname I picked up when I returned college (some 20 +years after my first stint).
I was living the little town (actually it's a city since it is incorporated) of Arimo.

It was either that nickname or one of my other psudonyms of CrazyDave, or NormanBates
(after the character in Psyco).

ArimoDave seemed more innocuous than the other choices.
