What Was The Best Day of Your Life (So Far)?

Unread postby BigTex » Sat 03 May 2008, 18:07:16

Please exclude the day you got married (or divorced, as appropriate) and the day your kid(s) were born, since not everyone here has them.

Other than the events above, what was the best day of your life so far? It has to be something you remember as well. Don't say the day you were born or the first time you nursed or something like that.

What happened on that day?

Do you think you will ever forget it?

Mine: April 4th, 2007. Just more than a year ago, I became Muslim, hence my name (Returner to God). Or does this fall into the category that not everyone can relate to? In that case, some day in June (?) of 2005 when I bought, and subsequently read a few times, Twilight in the Desert

What was yours, BT?

The weekend after Victoria Day weekend in 1990 at Shannonville Motorsport Park. We were lined up on the grid after the warm up lap. I had placed 5th (out of 90 qualifier entries) on Victoria Day (and crashed at 100 mph on Sat.) so I was guaranteed a front row start.

I ended up with pole position because the 1st place qualifier switched with me (his right), and could hear the PA system announce my name and say that I was proving my 5 year old Gamma still competitive against the newer machines.

Pole position; I cant even describe it to you. You are scared, thinking about mortality, trying to beat the other guys, are the tires hot enough, are the brakes good etc...absolutely so high on adrenaline, but deadly, deadly serious.

It was my fourth race, and would be very short lived because my transmission exploded on the second lap. I was in 4th place when that happened. I wasn't even bummed because of the earlier comments of the announcer, and the whole experience in general.

Will I forget it? Not likely!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('3aidlillahi', 'W')hat was yours, BT?

It's a tough question, because I have a lovely wife and three beautiful kids, but there was one day back in December of 1991....

I was on a road trip with two buddies from Washington DC to Memphis to visit Graceland. We were traveling in this van and had left the night before and after driving all night had found ourselves on some logging roads in what must have been near the northeast corner of Tennessee.

We stopped at what looked like a good spot at the base of a small mountain, got out and began hiking up the mountain. The hike up took about three hours and when we got to the top we could see for what seemed like forever and the tops of all of the other mountains looked to be rippling in the sun.

There I saw my entire life up to that point in amazing detail. It was as if all of the experiences I had ever had were with me there at that moment. I also felt that I could see the rest of my life in the same detail. For a moment it seemed as if I was standing there with all of the past mes and all of the future mes and we were just sharing notes on things.

It was a long period of utter clarity and understanding of everything.

When it came time to hike back down (which was after I have no idea how long on top of that mountain), it was as if the trip was ending along with the climb. It made it seem as if the entire experience had been triggered by climbing the mountain, like it was Mount Olympus or something.

I kept thinking to myself the whole time "I've always known this. I've always known this."

It was the most amazing experience.

I arrived at the 40 acres I owned free and clear - the Friday before Memorial Day weekend 2004.

The next best day will be when I'll see my Daughter, SIL and Grandkids this summer who have been in Hawaii on deployment.

I can't recall the date but back in 2003 I dragged 2 near drowning parasailers out of Lake Lewisville with my Kayak.

It was tough dragging them as they held on to the back of my Dagger Kayak. It was like paddling through mud. The small crowd cheering me on was the biggest ego stroke I have ever recieved.

Mine was May 15, I think, of 2003. My last day working for someone else. After 30 years in enguneering, and several more in machine shops (making more money), I decided I was tired of listening to people who didn't know as much as I did about what I was doing on the job.

The next day was my worst, thinking I had made a grievous mistake. It got better from there. Wouldn't go back to the grind for love or money.

Any day I wake up and live it to the best of my ability. Of course, I almost always think the day I'm in is the best day of my life since the past is just reference material.

Around this past winter solsite, a bit before my 22 birthday. What happened was that I felt so much better that I thought was possible some months before, so happy, serene, ... I don't know the exact day, but it was in this range (around solstice) when I realised that my meditation and in general following of the path I chose, has led me to beccome anagami (non-returner, one who will attain Nirvana in the next life, in the sudavasa abodes.). After this I can say that now is the best moment in my life. :)

Wow, what was that like?

Was with my best friend at the time and actually it was an analogue of ecstacy called MDMC. While we were in a mental state of euphoria our heart chakras opened up and we had a serious discussion of our most positive and negative experiences in life. As the experiences started pouring out we evaluated them from a purely objective standpoint and in vivid clarity. Ended up releasing a lot of mental baggage during that experience and after a few days of recovery I felt like a completely new person. Was quite amazing. I wish such therapy were available for everyone as the world would be a much better place! So fast forward about 5 years I've accumulated a moderate amount of baggage back and have recently been exploring non drug ways to release it.

I was in a group for the particular disability I have, and an older woman said she had been in these groups for thirty years.

At that moment, it all came clear. I vowed right then that I would NOT be like that. From then on, I have done everything in my power to get well, and it's taken me on a path I never would have dreamed of at the time.

I've been off medication for going on eight years, I'm more mentally together than I've ever been, and my physical health is improving day by day. That day was the turning point in my life, and I'll never forget it.

I don't know if it was the best day, but it was the most profound, back around 1987. A hot summer night and I got off from work at the factory at 11:00 P.M. Had scored some grass and brought it home and lit up. Then set off for a long walk over steep hills under the moon. Walking with vitality and enjoying it I began to notice that there were spots of tension in various locations in my body. Then came the realization that if I focused awareness on these spots, as I was walking, that other somehow connected spots answered my awareness. They would be in all sorts of other spots with no logic to it. So I gradually came to the ability to make an inventory over my whole physical being. Then came the amazing discovery that I could do a kind of mental cat-scan and actually melt away the tension spots by focused mental energy. So I was still walking and had melted various tensions and completed an entire survey of every one. I finally got home after many miles of walking and had never felt so relaxed in my life. Then there was the day in Texas when I smoked some hash with my fellow oil workers. We went to the strip bars and I was 'in a state.' Got into a groove with the beautiful dancers while just sitting at a table. They would come over after the dance and give me nice gestures. The guys the next day said they didn't know what I was doing, but the girls were 'all over me.' Once in a lifetime experience. I didn't give them any money and they didn't give me their physical sex. At that moment, at that special time, something rare happened.
