I'm so sorry, everybody

Hi everyone,

This is JD from Peak Oil Debunked. I have an apology, and a concession to make.

It is with some regret that I must announce that I have decided to become a peak oiler. Yes, I know it's a big disappointment, and I was like the Great White Hope and all. Sorry everybody... I don't want to let you down, but I was taking a dump earlier -- and you know how conducive to deep thought the toilet can be sometimes -- well, I was thinking about peak oil, and it finally hit me, man, like a bolt out of the blue:

THE SUPPLY OF CRUDE OIL IS FINITE.

Honest to God, it finally sunk in. I'm hereby making a formal apology. Hanging my head down in shame. The peak oilers were right. Oil is actually going to peak someday. The logic is solid and I'm going to have to concede that point. I'm so sorry everybody. But that's just the reality, and I'm just going to have to suck it up, and face it.

Thanks for listening.

Voice of GOD (sort of like that guy on CNN):

John Denver! Your apology is insincere! Verily, you have always been a peak oiler! Yet, you have insisted that Man will cope with it!

You must now apologize for thinking that Man could ever survive with his grievous and sinful hubris intact after the peak of petroleum energy sources that I have placed upon the Earth!! Repent or your SOUL WILL BURN IN HELL, John Denver. And I will have NO MERCY upon you for all eternity!

Repent! And apologize for thinking that all is not lost!

Repent! And apologize NOW for promoting the view that the declining availability of fossil fuels will NOT prove too much for Man's ingenuity and adaptability.

YOU KNOW WHAT YOU MUST DO!!!!!

...And, em, say hello to Monte for me, would you? Cheerio!

Not sure what to make of JD's apology but he usually doesn't have anything to say to me anyway. But Michaelangelo's God is some interesting imagery. Nose right down to his mouth and whiskers coming out of the sides of his nostrils.

Interesting JD if this thread ain’t chum.

Somewhat along the lines of my kids and some other close family members finally looking at this site and also reading that POET is building a cellulosic ethanol plant extension to cook cobs and stalks in addition to grain and eventually other stuff.

They, of course still believe technology will save us.

What in particular changed your mind regarding PO?

Do you still think tech will save us?

I believe technology can easily save us.

IF we implement it in time.

I still think we're screwed.

Not because technology will fail us, but because human nature will triumph.

Our civilization will wait until we can no longer have a peaceful transition, and once we hit "the breaking point", a point where a critical mass of the populace is starving and resorts to crime and revolution, the infrastructure for constructing a nuclear powered civilization will go bye bye.

When that happens then we will have to go back to a population level that corresponds to a lower energy level.

This will result in dieoff, and massive destruction of infrastructure, the environment, and much of our genetic diversity as well as much of our technology.

It's one big ugly mess.

We may never recover...

Ugh...

Interesting video. It puts a humorous twist on a dire situation. At some point though, the reality of the situation kicks in. Then the laughter stops. I'm not going to be laughing, and neither is JD.

Sounds sarcastic to me. CERA admits to peak oil 2030 or 2050.

You also believe in a technology fix and a Jetsons future.

Good luck with your shenanigan's

It doesn't seem like the kind of thing that needs an apology. Kind of like the 'flat earth' people apologizing to NASA.

Was there some specific thing that turned you?
