I voted other. If we want to be realistic in our desires, I can't support technofix/business as usual. I'd like to, but have to agree that there is nothing currently available, nor anything coming down the pipe, that gives the same energy density as easily as oil.
What I would like to see, is mankind changing its behavior through education. Through sensible policies widely adopted, and attrition of our overshot population through natural death and sensible reproductive practices, I would like to see a planetary population more in synch with living within the carrying capacity of the planet.
I would like to see more long term planning, and investing in our living systems, and transportation and agricultural needs. Getting away from the consumerist paradigm that currently seems to hold sway would go a long way to mitigating the potential for a hard crash. Demand for speed, and excess, and minimum dollar expenditure is what has driven us to the profligate use of our resources, and their inevitable loss.
I'd like to see us continue to advance in science and art. I'd like to see us shed the bonds of our planet, and reach for the stars. I'd like mankind to rise above our petty scrambling for cash, and become custodians to the universe, in a constant quest for understanding and beauty.
But I started out saying I wanted to be realistic.
