The price of oil will increase.

Go up in price.

I say it is going to go down back to $70's and it will hover there for 1-2 months absent some catastrophic event, .

The amount of price increase depends on whether israel attacks Syria or not (matter of 'when' not 'if').

No attack --- price goes up $1.60 or so

Attack --- price goes up $8 or $9

These are guesses for Monday only...

$85 a barrel by next Friday.

Watching energy prices rise last week was like doomer porn. I'm hoping for a second coming this week.

Wait, do you mean the highest interday trading, or the highest final day, or at the end of the week?

1) 83.52

2) 83.83

3) 80.23

There is going to be a lot of confusion next week over what oil number is offical. The August contract is set to expire on Friday. Some people will be reporting on the August contract and other will be reporting on the September contract.

My Predictions:

The August contract will never go above $80 with a trading range between ($76 anf $78 ).

The September contract will scarcely go below $80 and will have a trading range of ($80 to $84).

During my time at peakoil.com I've noticed that, while people are usually pretty good at predicting price direction, whenever everyone knows it's going to go up, it actually goes down. So just to be different, I will predict a price drop for the next few days. As people get used to the idea of Israel fighting Lebanon and as their plans and intentions become more clear, the "fear of the unknown" factor will subside and people will calm down.

Of course, any unpredictable escalations will cancel that theory out.

I agree. This is a price spike, but the intensity and duration of it will depend on how serious the hostilities become.

And of course, the price at the end of the spike will still be higher than the price at the beginning.
