Lets define our terms
To me 'winning' means America stays a free and open society that protects it's democratic values and freedom of expression
This America can lose it's global dominance, lose it's prosperity, even lose it's economic system and say 'we won'
But Bush doesn't understand this, he thinks winning means retaining America's dominance and power in the world, he care's little for the original intent behind the constitution
Compassionate conservative.. what a crock, he's neither
This kind of America will lose, has lost already. In the face of a changing world instead of trying to recapture what America means he's bit by bit turning it into an empire fighting any force it doesn't like, from terrorists, to geology, science, its own people. In arrogance they think they are supreme and can dictate world events. Wake up America, it isn't working
Power and glory... the same plunder that seduce all nations and lead to their ruin
Why not defeat the terrorists by protectionism, sharing out the remaining oil by quota, missile defense, technology, accepting the fact of a multi-polar world?
No, this is too innovative and pragmatic, too intuitive
High oil prices mean only one thing, poor countries getting poorer and their populations militantly against the US
As I have zero faith at all that Bush knows what America is, then yes they have lost
But in my opinion America lost in the soul seaching 70's when they went for money and materialism, all this goes back to the cold war days, the 60's movement, oil embargo, and the vietnam war
This is what Easy Rider was trying to say... 'we blew it'
As the dream of the 60's fell apart they could see the writing on the wall about 35 years before everyone else
