I've read both of those fine volumes.
As another poster mentioned, we have a more complex society, one more interconnected and energy dependent, than the ones addressed by the above. Furthermore, our agriculture is more energy dependent than the historical societies mentioned.
Personally, I don't expect as fast or as hard a crash as do the originally referenced bloggers; however, I would not dismiss it out of hand.
