Ha, like the Yellowman. Any chance of a duet with Raffi?

Searching for "bubblegum" on the 'tube to fire back with, what do I get but Bon "He choked to death on his own vomit" Scott's 60s band The Valentines, covering Build Me Up Buttercup. You remember Scott, he of early AC/DC. Wonder if they did any covers of Sugar Sugar and the like? Here's a high energy take on Sunshine Superman (starts at 3:25) from 26 years ago. Note the moshing/stage diving; bet you thought that was invented in the Bush I years, eh?

Which Bush ? I would have said Reagan <- that's from our local club Bessie's Boathouse in Norfolk. But in the mid 80's (even though they started earlier, it was the DC hardcore scene with Bad Brains (that's serious stuff), Fugazi, etc.

I remember in the 90's a friend dragged a bunch of us to see The Connells at Hammerjack's in Baltimore. They weren't used to spontanteous slam dancing but that's what happened. They seemed to be energized by it. I don't really like their recorded music that much but I had fun that night. Hammerjack's was like a lot of clubs in the 80's and 90's - an old warehouse or factory with gigantic wooden supports that had great acoustics. It was torn down for the parking lot for the new Baltimore Ravens stadium.

That Fugazi reminds me of all the crazy nights at the clubs in DC.

Dag Nasty at the Old 930 Club. A lot of these hardcore bands were "Straight Edge" which meant they didn't drink or do drugs and would sometimes lecture. I'd be back in the back sipping my Jack Daniels.

Now you can come to the new clubs like Black Cat and see Hank Williams III covering Misfits songs (in a smoke free environment)

Hank III sounds just like Hank I when he's singing country, just updated a bit. He is often compared to his granddad (in personality and music) as opposed to his daddy.

Yeah, I had no idea. Haven't kept up. Doesn't sound like his granddad though. Similar philosophy of life. But Hank 2 had that too. Family Tradition

Dick in Dixie! Yeehaw!

Hank III A lot of similarities. Sounds like Hank III relates more to his granddad than his father. His dad expressed the same sentiments but Hank III seems to prefer granddads style.

Hank Sr. An autobiographical song.

Yeah, too bad she left out a few lines. Did you notice the sound quality was very good? I guess she has a record out, maybe in the UK.

Did any of you ever post any Pentangle? I recently discovered them and was amazed I didn't know of them before. If it hasn't been covered, maybe I'll post a couple.

(I wish this thread wasn't in the Hall.)

Yeah, I posted Pentangle, a long time ago. Threads tend to go down the memory hole. This one lives because it's in the Hall.

Something prescriptive for your job search, PMS: The Clash - Career Opportunities. Or if you're really pissed try the Minutemen- Mr. Robot's Holy Orders. Rather more edgy than "Get a Job" etc.

Didn't realize you were into 80s punk, dino. My thoroughly crappy high school band played in Portland clubs like this one ca. 1988:

Limited chances to catch shows though so it was quite the surprise when some of the bands I'd seen listed in the PDX Live Music guide turned into household names.

That's cool, some friends of mine were in a band in college that became pretty popular regionally. I had much fun just tagging along. I've always had a range of music I listened to compared to the people I was around, but I like playing stuff that people like. Usually when I buy music it's because I'm thinking of someone who likes that particular stuff. As far as 80's 'punk', pre-high school <80 it was mostly blues-based and metal for me then a friend in the early 80's introduced me to the Violent Femmes and later she turned me on to the Dead Kennedys. I had been a Clash fan which also led me into Reggae. During college we would road trip to DC and caught the tail end of the Hardcore scene with Bad Brains, Fugazi etc. A much different crowd than the british punk people, but I like that too,

I pretty much like anything depending on my mood.

When we get together for poker or something and I play my ipod on random it gets pretty interesting.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Shannymara', 'I')f we had gone to the same high school we probably would have hung out together, dino and Dude.
Can I join the clique? Yeah I don't like metal or punk anymore, but I can tell a good joke or two. Actually, when I was 15 I liked Black Sabbath. Saw Alice Cooper and Led Zeppelin in concert. My first girlfriend who let me go all the way liked Led Zeppelin too. She was so pretty. Sometimes I still have dreams about her.
