$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Denny', '(')Some believe the GPS chip on cell phones can be used to track ones whereabouts.)

I don't think there's any doubt that cell phones can be used in that way. The e-911 cell phone requirements that have been published require that all cell phones have a GPS chip and that it be able to be activated remotely by the towers even if the phone is turned off. The FBI has openly admitted to using Nextel cell phones as a bugging device. The questions surrounding using cell phones as trackers would be technical questions involving how cumbersome it was to implement and on whether specific cell phone models could be made to do it surreptitiously. There's nothing else that would prevent it.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('smallpoxgirl', 'I') was at the airport today. The TSA agents wouldn't allow this lady's mother to pass a single key into the secure area. Made her go out and wait in line again for 20 minutes to get re-screened. Did someone design a nuclear bomb that fits in a key that I haven't heard about.

Just a little update. I just reached into my carry-on bag and guess what I found?

Apparently they were so busy hassling the poor woman about her key that they missed the 8 inch sheath knife in my bag! Glad I found it before they did.

Actually, I would venture to guess that only about 5% of travelers are dumb enough to pack anything of significant value into a checked bag. If that's the case, then the theft is much more wide spread, it's just that there isn't much of value going through the search stations.

Maybe they "reasoned" that the expensive items where going to be converted into cash for a drug deal? I've read of people traveling with somewhat large amounts of cash having it confiscated on the grounds that they were probably going to buy drugs with it. The Feds tend to think of all private property as public domain and thus under their special jurisdictions (read: outside of the limits of the Constitution.) We live in wacky times for sure.

DHS/TSA/SS/ICE Television Propaganda Show

Unread postby mattduke » Fri 30 May 2008, 19:12:23

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '"')They want people to know how diligent they are," Shapiro said. "You hear about every problem that the Department of Homeland Security is having; you never hear about what they're doing that's good."
Such security problems in recent years have ranged from media reports of border agents taking bribes, to ongoing concerns that cargo inspections at airports and shipping ports remain dangerously lax.
Shapiro said "Border" will tell "the other side of the story."
"I love investigative journalism, but that's not what we're doing," he said. "This show is heartening. It makes you feel good about these people who are doing their best to protect us."

TSA Follies: 10 Year Old Evades TSA Security

Unread postby mattduke » Fri 30 May 2008, 19:22:47

It's so easy a 10 year old can do it. Well, I guess at least TSA keeps those can't-find-a-better-job thugs off the street (rifling through your belongings).

TSA Follies: Papers Now Required To Fly

What will happen to the TSA goons when flying is unaffordable? Who will pat us down?

Can you imagine the queues in a New York subway station? Most people would walk, but then I'm sure TSA agents would be dispatched to every crosswalk.

A wee bit cynical today aren't we? These good people are from the government and are here to help us.

The people doing the patting down sure are.... some of the people making the laws may have good intentions, but they are using the fear card to take away freedoms too.

It's all a big charade. I accidentally walked onto a plane a couple of weeks ago with one of these in my carry on: link
I didn't realize it until I got to my destination.
People feel safer if someone gives them grief. Plain and simple. Has anyone ever asserted that any of the 911 hijackers didn't have a drivers license?
