$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('rangerone314', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('SeaGypsy', 'H')eard some news about some big new venture in Iran today something about 10 billion barrells. Wow! Almost 6 months of world supply! We are saved! The article posted ignores the fact that CNG is currently vitually useless as a transport fuel. Yes there are technolgies to make it not so, but that aint what we've got. Wake up and smell the roses.

You forgot to mention all the Helium-3 on the moon that we can mine.

Yeah when we figure out how to get there through the Van Allan radiation belt. :-D

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', ' ')Iraq alone will be producing 5 million more barrels of oil per day within just five years

Those are the only numbers in the entire article.

"The bulk of the funds for Iraq's reconstruction will come from Iraqis -- from oil revenues, recovered assets, international trade, direct foreign investment -- as well as some contributions we've already received and hope to receive from the international community."

Oct. 2, 2003 - Donald Rumsfeld

Meanwhile, the insurgents are targeting every part of the energy infrastructure -- crude oil, electricity, refined products -- and the American military has been able to do little to stop the destruction. And it's killing the Iraqi economy.

Kirkuk Ceyhan Pipeline:

" Flows have been intermittent since they were cut last week ... Oil began flowing three days ago but had stopped again. The levels of pumping are often unclear."

The world burns 83 million barrels a day. Please tell me what alternative is going to make a significant dent in that.

Don't worry about all the chemicals in our air--they could be a piggy bank!
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '[')b]Producing Carbon-negative Plastic for Newlight’s AirCarbon
Scientists at Newlight Technologies LLC have achieved a scalable, cost-effective carbon-negative plastic production method for AirCarbon, a high-performance thermoplastic made by pulling carbon out of air. A carbon-negative plastic has been sought-after for many years. While a material that pulls carbon out of the air has been produced, the cost to produce it has been three times higher than the cost to produce plastic from oil. ...
Founded in 2003, Newlight Technologies has invented, patented, and commercialized AirCarbon, a paradigm-shifting material made by pulling carbon, such as methane and carbon dioxide, out of air. As a result of Newlight’s breakthroughs in gas conversion yield and polymer performance, AirCarbon can replicate the performance of oil-based plastics while significantly out-competing on price, representing a market-driven solution to displacing oil, reducing material cost, and reversing climate change. [Optimistic bunch!] ...

If it works as claimed then it becomes a question of the energy required more than the costs doesn't it?
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Alfred Tennyson', 'W')e are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
