Yes it's not pretty reading is it inke, the truth is a hard pill to swallow. kub found that out, the death of his dream, the world's fleets of cars becoming electrified. Battcars, as stupid an idea as ever was. And self-driving cars, straight out of iRobot and Minority Report and 100 other SciFi movies. "Just believe", and give us $80,000 and all your dreams will come true.

Just imagine it. You drive out of the showroom having just signed away a large chunk of your income for the next several years and as you wait at the first traffic light you realize that the car you just bought has already lost ten thousand dollars in resale value, because now it's used. You chuckle to yourself, that's ok, it's a keeper. At the next light you look down and realize the dealership only half charged the battery? No problems, you can get home on 15%, but you determine you'll top it off when you get home, that will be fun, your first recharge, but it's also your first little exposure to range anxiety, an emotion that will come back to haunt you again and again.

As you pull into the carport you realize that because it's an overcast day the solar panels wont be outputting much. You best leave off charging till tomorrow because the forecast is for fine skies then. The last thing you want is to start charging from the coal fired grid at those high prices. Inside you relax with the owners manual and it's there you discover that it's best to keep the battery below 80% if you want full life out of it. It's ok to charge to 100%, occasionally, for those special trips, Ugggh, a sudden jolt of range anxiety.

"Full Self-Driving (Supervised)" (FSD) builds upon Autopilot, offering features like navigating city streets, handling traffic lights and stop signs, and even automated parking. However, it's crucial to understand that even with FSD, driver supervision is still required, and the system does not make the vehicle fully autonomous. (FSD) Beta can operate on unlined roads, but with limitations. While it can detect and navigate on roads without lane markings, driver supervision is crucial, especially in situations like narrow roads, oncoming traffic, or complex intersections.

But that's all ok too, it looks cool and feels cool and the bluetooth is AMAZING. Then after a week you are driving along and approaching a T junction, across from which is the broad driveway into a unit complex. Abruptly realize the car is not slowing down, it thinks the road continues on! You're prepared for this right? You ignore your playlist and grab the wheel, your foot going to the brake pedal, you've taken this corner before and have plenty of room to brake and turn, but suddenly you find yourself in an alien world. What's happening? This was not mentioned in the owners manual, in fact no one online has broached the subject either. It's the reason why most accidents happen within 5 minutes of home, specifically, around 52% of accidents within five miles, and 77% within 15 miles of home.

Why? Because people are not in the "Zone", your mind has not fully switched on to the act of driving. It's why we crawl out of the driveway at home, take the first corner slowly, cautiously. We don't consciously realize it but we are a little unsure of ourselves. It takes those 5 miles to make mind and car one, and on another plane altogether it's why people, typically, act very different when driving, often acting aggressively. There is Fight, and Flight, and then there is the driving mindset. It's indisputable, you can't avoid it, and if you have been a passive "passenger" in the car you can't hope to react with critical driving inputs in a sudden emergency. Best case scenario is you're just going to panic and hit the brakes a little too hard. But I have heard tales of much stranger behavior when people are flustered, like driving through shop fronts

The downsides of the Battcar is what has killed it's uptake as much as it's price has. The downsides of autonomous driving will likely prove to be much worse. We will just have to wait and see won't we. Not that we'll see much, with the economy heading South like ducks in the fall I can't imagine many will ever make it onto the streets. Toys for techno_cornucopian wind socks. WannaBees enslaving themselves to endless Debt.

The entire point is the cherry picking. Parrots find what they beleive to be true, guided by their little parrot minds, and then find references good, bad or make believe that back up their parrot idea, and parrot them.
