Chinese Students Laugh At Geithner

Postby mattduke » Mon 01 Jun 2009, 09:00:32

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '&')quot;Chinese assets are very safe," Geithner said in response to a question after a speech at Peking University, where he studied Chinese as a student in the 1980s.

His answer drew loud laughter from his student audience, reflecting scepticism in China about the wisdom of a developing country accumulating a vast stockpile of foreign reserves instead of spending the money to raise living standards at home.

I wonder how long he had to practice saying it in front of a mirror to say it with a straight face.

Missing piece of information: Were Geithner's remarks made through an interpereter or were the "students" able to understand english?

I'm reminded of the above famous Monty Python skit....A disrespectful translator could have made this hilarious....

"Chinese Students Laugh At Geithner"

Not sure why that's in the news; I laugh at Geithner all the time and that doesen't even make the CityPaper here.

What isn't reported, is that Geithner is laughing at all of us, behind our backs!

The Chinese understand that Geithner is in fact, a master comedian and that all his comments are meant to be taken ironically.

Geitner Lifts Ass For Chinese Masters

Postby deMolay » Mon 08 Jun 2009, 15:52:29

Geitner doesn't look happy. But neither was Hilary when Obama made her get her teeth and tonsils removed before she went to China to beg. The world is starting to laugh at Obama and his policies. http://exiledonline.com/geithner-lifts-ass-for-chinese-masters/

Geithner says Americans will have to save more

Postby Sixstrings » Wed 07 Oct 2009, 15:08:59

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'B')ERLIN (Reuters) - Americans will have to save more in the future, transforming the global economy, and Europeans and Japanese must work to boost domestic demand, U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner was quoted as saying on Wednesday.

"Everyone is going to have to come to terms with the fact that we are going to save more in the United States," Geithner said in an interview with German weekly Die Zeit, conducted on Sunday in Istanbul, and due to appear on October 8. "If the U.S. starts saving more, that changes the whole world's economic reality," he said, according to the German text of the interview.

Geithner said China was already doing a lot to consider how to put growth on a more sustainable path. "In China, the government is at the forefront of thinking about new ways to reduce the dependence of the economy on export and investments," he said. "But it is not just about the U.S. and China. Europe and Japan make up 40 percent of the global economy."

Geithner said the U.S. could not force Europe to boost domestic demand to adapt to the new economic reality, but he saw it as the only viable strategy to guarantee lasting growth. "They have to decide themselves how to adapt. I am not aware of any other strategy that promises success."

He also said that the recovery was in a very early phase, and there were many risks ahead. "If you look at past crises, politicians mostly made the mistake of tightening the purse strings too early," he said."The private sector needs to start growing on its own for a sustainable recovery to take place." link
Hm.. so if Americans stop spending like they used to, then where does that leave our 70% service-based economy? If we must spend less and save more, then how will a jobs recovery ever happen?

How can I 'save' if I don't have a job? In the classical sense, 'to save' involved socking away some income on a regular basis to deal with the occasional rainy day. I'm not convinced that spending less = saving. Sure, many people are now spending less, but it is not because they are 'saving'. They just have less to spend.

This quote caught my attention: $this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'G')eithner said the U.S. could not force Europe to boost domestic demand to adapt to the new economic reality, but he saw it as the only viable strategy to guarantee lasting growth
.

Good luck with that strategy...

Guess Tim didn't get the memo: Lasting growth never has been and never will be viable.

I believe in saving, and Geitner may be right. Having said that it will be a cold day in &&%^ before I ever save a penny with Geitners bankster friends. My savings are in Guns, Silver, and a couple of thousand dollars with my local credit union. I'm done with the likes of Geitner, Paulson, Bernake or any of their thieving friends. I find it more than coincidental that bankers now want the public to save as they find them selves insolvent even after massive government bailouts.

And, (we Would ask ourselves, but, we already know the answer!), just WHERE do they want us to keep our savings? HHmmm...

I want to see how much Geitner is saving. We know he can't do his income tax.

Geithner's a failure at every position he's ever been in.

Thus his success. Failure is what he does.

But just imagine how much money you could be saving if you didn't have to bother paying those meddlesome income taxes.

Geithner is just stating the obvious here. Americans have been overspending and undersaving for decades. Some extended period of high savings/low consumption growth will be required to get us back into balance.

The strategy could work if Americans saved money that was invested in worthwhile projects like a revamped train system or renewable energy projects that reduced our oil dependence.

But instead we appear to be "investing" in potholes and bloated state budgets.

What is the Condition of U.S. Savings?

If you take June's 4.6% savings rate and assume that American households are saving that much money for a whole year, you get a total yearly savings of $500 billion.

That's a lot of money, but it pales in comparison to the $2 trillion budget deficit.

For every dollar that American households save, the Feds borrow 4.

At least Greenspan did his brainstorming in the bathtub where he could reach down
and grab his frothy exuberance as required.

Messrs. Bernanke and Geithner work the dry game, they aren't all wet and
soapy to where they blow bubbles when they tell a whopper, or slide down
the tub and bonk their noggin when they witness the robbery of the millenium
at the hands of the banksters they cover for and then tell the marks that they
need to save more money.

As the fox said to the skunk during their tryst:

"I believe I have had as much of this as I can stand."

Anyway, back to my novel about the Head of the Fed,
"Mr. Bubbles and the Dirty Truth Boys."
