:) I'm currently driving a 2004 Jeep which I bought 6 moths ago. 1 month before I discovered peak oil.
Kind of ironic I think. And I am your typical selfish driver, I live very close to the CBD (where I work) have access to 3 rail stations within walking distance (less that 8 minutes) as well as buses to the city.
Everyday I drive to the CBD.
And Sydney is chocka's with 4WD's (SUV's) of all shapes and sizes, perhaps even more so than in some US cities I've been to.
Australian's love the damn things just as much as North Americans do.
To buy one? Why not? Sales of 4WD's here in Australia are still strong despiste the rise in petrol costs.

I don't know if they make you stupid, but they may cause deafness. My mother was practically sitting on the car horn as a Chevy Surburban slowly backed into her Caravan's driver's side door. The woman behind the wheel was a 95 pound soccer mom. Of course, her car suffered no damages.

Do they make you stupid or are they just a visible symptom of stupidity (and/or ignorance)?

The article makes some good points, but certainly its using biased facts for its views.

No, but posting on this site may be considered evidence as stupidity; maybe even proof.

Whoops, didn't realize that. Oh well, we are all idiots destined to live throught the decline of available energy. Sort of like getting old and not being able to get it up so often. Maybe that is what the decline from the peak will be like, an old man with about a 40' angle of erection with the urge, but not the capability.

The Honda Jazz is one of the smallest cars on the market (K-car in Japan) and has one of the best safety ratings...

Big deal. Its a tractor. If you peek out your window for 45 seconds you'll see them on the interstate ALL THE TIME.

Most city folk call them "semi's"

GM to stop production of Envoy SUV

Unread postby JayHMorrison » Fri 18 Feb 2005, 16:48:57

Envoy SUV being cancelled after only 18 months of production. Lack of sales cited as the reason. Crappy gas milage not cited for some reason :-) Link

www.fueleconomy.gov
This site is a wealth of data pertaining to the fuel economy of all personal vehicles sold in the USA subject to fuel economy reporting (which is why the Hummer and many trucks aren't on this site, over 8,000 lbs are exempt).
A quick scan can reveal how lousy American-market personal vehicles are.

One gas station for Three SUVs

This article I found to be pretty funny, knowing all that I know about hydrogen.

Well at least the reporter didn't say that hydrogen was an energy source.

Fed up with arrogant and dangerous SUV drivers.

Unread postby Scooter_Rider » Sun 20 Feb 2005, 22:54:05

Went riding my (400cc) scooter today with my wife on back, and had a few close calls with hulking SUV's, of which many of those drivers were talking on cell phones. I am a very skillful/careful rider and driver. But that doesn't matter when it comes to SUV and pickup truck drivers. If you don't get out of their way, they will flatten you. They also like running up real close behind smaller vehicles... total intimidation I guess. I suppose it makes them feel good in a sort of twisted way. No wonder road rage is so common these days.
Also noticed lately that people are driving faster than ever before. 'Damn the high gas prices' they say. By the way, price of gas is averaging about $2.12 per gallon where I live. America's love affair with the SUV and max horsepower makes me totally sick. Today I also saw lots of 'Support Our Troops' bumper stickers with little American flags plastered on the back of many guzzling SUV's. I am getting so fed up with the American ME ME ME attitude. :x

When will the roads become more unclogged due to higher gas prices? How high will the price of gas have to go before Americans cut back on their driving?

Carry a 3 foot long prybar. If somebody is going to side-swipe you, you will know what to do with the prybar, (break&pull). I don't know how you can react to a T-bone, head on, or rear end though, (unless you happen to own a spear gun). 8O

Yes, but they said that building fuel cells was inexpensive. I read somewhere else that it costs around 1 million dollars per car to build them.
