Yes, that's the sense I get, Ludi. Guys burn leaves because their fathers burned leaves, and their fathers before them. People would rather burn them than drag them a few feet and let them decompose.

This has been discussed before. Most OWB's are just a firebox surrounded by water and they can never get hot enough to achieve decent combustion. They do allow burning all kinds of wood/stuff which is a plus and a minus. Wood gasification is just so much more efficient (but more expensive). Maine has promulgated new regulations concerning pollution limits on these units.
