I guess we'll see. The war drums are beating very loudly for Syria and Iran right now and there is no way (short of dropping a few nukes) that the U.S. can invade another country with the military the way it is right now.

This would mean that it could be as early as June 15. I'm willing to bet that's when the U.S. will launch a full-scale attack on Iran and Syria. Any takers to that bet?


If this is to happen,there is no way that enogh troops will be trained,and shipped out in time to participate in an ivasion of anywhere, let alone Iran.

I'm not saying that there are no plans for a military action against Iran or Syria,I just don't see an invasion happening with the troop stregth we have now,short of a draft occuring.Then,like I said above,it will take time to pass the legislation,get it inplace,then draft,train,and ship these soldiers to a staging area(Iraq).This will take way more than 75 days.

Yeah, but it's getting harder and harder to ignore the way gas is going up in price. Of course people argue that it's cheaper if you factor inflation into the equation. I don't get those people because they're missing a few key elements: look at our national debt and deficit now compared to what it was in the 70's. Not to mention the amount of debt the average American owes now; I think it amounts to almost $145,000 per person.

I hear all the time that this country is never going to collapse and inside I'm laughing my ass off because people in this country, especially during this point in history, have the shortest memory and have developed some of the most despicible collective arrogance of any other group of people on the planet. We act as though it should be against the law for us to pay 2.00 per gallon for gas when other people in other industrialized nations have been paying five or six dollars per gallon for years now.

When the U.S. embarked on imperialistic ambitions across its borders (which Jefferson and numerous other Founding Fathers warned future generations against), that is when the downfall started to happen. All other empires in history that became imperialist forces, collapsed, period. I'm sure the ancient Romans displayed the same kind of arrogance saying, "this will never happen to us". I hear it all the time and a lot of people walk around projecting the attitude like it's their God-given right to drive an SUV, buy cheap plastic shit, and have the luxury of a "disposible lifestyle".

These people think that just because we're the most technologically advanced (at least our military) nation in the history of the world we will never go under. Bullshit, I say. We've been trading our version of a perfect world for a fallacy - trying to control nature instead of living with it........and now we're trying to hold together the Titanic with duct tape because we refuse to change and let "our way of life" go.

The USA can't collapse, they say. History tells a different tale though and that is why I think a draft is very possible.

If the draft will be ready in 75 days, that's when they start inducting kids into the military. It will take a fair bit of time after that to train and organize them, and then start shipping them off.

The influx of officers will be massive as well, and need some time. The old epithet of '90-day wonder' for junior officers wasn't attached by accident.

Wildwell has a point.

I read post after post suggesting that the average Joe is only concerned about cheap gas, easy living and going to walmart, yet these same people are going to readily join up to fight in a resource war thousands of miles from home?

I think there would be somewhat of a political backlash at home would there not?

Besides where is the money coming from to finance this little adventure?

How will the US cope with the resulting $200 oil?

Invasion of Iran ain't gonna happen.

I feel like a stuck record :)

Hardly. The average US citizen has been complacent in the US' foreign policy so far because it has not affected them directly much at all. If Bush calls for a draft, I think there will be a lot of unrest in the country. It will be the moment where the average US citizen will have to put their money where their mouth is.

If the draft is coming it will come soon, I think, as Bush still has nearly 4 full years to work with relatively free reign (not having to worry about re-election). I would expect a tumult in the Republican party about it as well, though, as it will make the 2006 election cycle much less of a sure thing for a lot of GOP politicians.

I was going to say, I'd be amazed if Bush got away with that. He certainly isn't winning hearts and minds abroad either.

In fact, this could be a good test for the 9/11 conspiracy crowd. If the BA was willing to stage 9/11 to invade Iraq and Afghanistan, they will almost certainly stage something else this spring in order to invade Iran.

Over here (UK) we have a big thing going on with a new law the Government to put in over detention without trial – throwing every rule in the law book out.

Not surprisingly there’s a lot of opposition to the plan.

Also not surprisingly, a former chief police office, Sir John Stevens, announced, quote ‘there were up to 200 al-Qaeda "terrorists" in the UK’. Which begs the question: If they know there are these operatives why aren’t they being arrested and put under trial anyway?

A lot of people ‘in the know’, think it’s nothing like this number. Crispin Black, a former government intelligence analyst, suggested Sir John's figures were "a little over the top"

So now we’re all waiting to see if something does happen, along the lines of the conspiracy theorists (which I’m not – yet). This is fast turning into a police state.

It didn’t help last night on the nations most popular commercial station the US born presenter, announced ‘Britain deserves a 9/11 type attack, not only for it’s colonial past because of all the sweeping liberal left views about’. For those not inside the country anti US government (not people) feeling is very high and most people view the Iraq as a grave mistake.

The fact is that no one knows what will happen. Anyone claiming to know the future is a fool.

Will the U.S. invade Iran? Who knows. It's a big gamble, true, but I'm still not ruling out the possibility.

Afterall, there is still a large percentage of Americans that still believe Saddam H. was behind 9/11.

So sad to see so many people who can't think and reason for themselves.

Not likely. She took a closer look at the card, and it said she was a man (trust me; she isn't ;)). It probably really was a mistake.


You guys, it was a thanks for registering. I'm registered for the Selective Service. I registered in highschool back in '01 when I turned 18. I'm sitting in a University computer lab. I haven't been drafted. I'm not saying that means there ain't gonna be one or that they ain't plannin' for it, I'm saying that you guys are confusing registration with actually being called up. I got one of those notes too. I lost my card tho.
