The Apollo Alliance

The Apollo Alliance is an interesting and good first step towards addressing peak oil issues in the United States. They state that they are focused on Ohio but are also involved in other states. Their goal is complete independence from oil by 2015. It's ambitious but we're getting close enough to the cliff that it's past time to be bold and ambitious. Much of their focus is also on relocalization and movement away from globalization.

This article discusses the Apollo Alliance and points out some of the positives from it but it also points out that this is only a first step. The larger problem has been exponential growth of the human population on planet earth. All other problems fall out from that population growth.

Initially, I like what I see of the Apollo Alliance because it brings manufacturing jobs back to the United States and advocates relocalization and conservation to address many oil problems. But the Apollo Alliance is going to need more widespread acceptance and even a push from the grassroots level to have a chance of succeeding.

I must say that I totally disagree with you on the Apollo Alliance. I think their approach is hugely counterproductive to their stated goal of so-called energy independence. Their biggest flaw is in their obsessive focus on maintaining high levels of car use, as if it were some kind of human inherent dependency on enjoying car crashes and traffic jams. Read their proposals and there is almost nothing related to localized food production. But cars? Do we have to squander more resources in order to achieve "energy independence"? One thing that is guaranteed is that if we go this route then America will never obtain energy independence. Never! But even worse is they want to sacrifice our agricultural capacity toward biofuels, which would probably cause a famine if we were to try to scale it up to power our dumbshit boxes (a.k.a. cars).

Apollo Alliance is bullshit. These people either don't have a clue or they are shilling for the auto industry (who will be in the fight for their lives once oil peaks). Who knows? I think that their proposals are just plain stupid, either way.
